Gum Disease
When you first come to New Port Richey Dentistry, your comprehensive exam includes a check for gum disease. If you are found to have it, we will instruct you on what needs to be done to address the issue. Gum disease begins simply enough and may not seem like a problem. Many people in the early stages of the disease seldom realize it until it is pointed out to them with general dentistry.
The problem is that when left unchecked, gum disease can eventually cause tooth loss. It is one of the leading causes of tooth loss in older adults. In its early stages, it is easy to treat. Most often, all that is needed to begin the healing process is a thorough, professional cleaning to remove plaque and tartar along with a special mouth rinse and/or toothpaste. Follow-up visits ensure that the gums are healing and treatment is working.
